The men's 4 × 7.5 km relay race in the biathlon at the 2006 Winter Olympics took place on February 21, 2006 at 12:00 in Cesana Torinese . A total of 17 relays of 4 athletes each started. A total of 68 athletes took part.

Gold went to the German relay with Ricco Groß , Michael Rösch , Sven Fischer and Michael Greis . The Russian team won silver and the French team took bronze.

Competition description

In the relay race, four athletes from one nation entered the race as a team. Each athlete had to run a distance of 7.5 km with three laps of equal length each. After the first two rounds, the shooting range had to be started once; the first shot had to be shot lying down, the second shot standing. In contrast to the individual competitions, the athletes had up to three reload cartridges per shooting bout. For each target that was not hit after all eight shots had been fired, a penalty loop with a length of 150 m had to be completed. The relay handover to the next athlete took place by clearly touching the body within a given transition zone. At the end of his third lap, the last athlete no longer ran into the transition area, but directly to the finish. The winner was the nation whose relay reached the finish line first.
