Timothy "Tim" Burke (born February 3, 1982 in Paul Smiths , Franklin County , New York ) is a former American biathlete .

Career

Tim Burke started for Lake Placid Biathlon and was trained by Per Nilsson and Armin Auchentaller, among others. The athlete, who lives in Lake Placid, started biathlon in 1997. He has been part of the US national team since 2004 and made his debut in the World Cup in Ruhpolding (82nd in the sprint) that same year . He won his first World Cup point at the 2006/07 season opener in Östersund. In Hochfilzen he was tenth in the sprint for the first time in the world elite. Timothy Burke achieved his best results so far in the World Cup at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season in Östersund. With 2nd place in the individual and 3rd place in the sprint, he stood on the podium for the first time. On December 20, 2009, he was the only American to date to take the lead in the overall biathlon world cup.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he competed in the individual (57th), sprint (37th) and pursuit (38th) as well as the relay (9th). Tim Burke took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics again and started in all races. His best result was 18th place in the mass start. With the relay he finished 13th. Tim Burke has so far participated in eight world championships. The outstanding result was winning the individual silver medal at the 2013 in Nove Mesto , the first World Championship medal for a US biathlete since 1987.

Burke has been married to German ex-biathlete Andrea Henkel since October 25, 2014 .

After the relay race at Holmenkollen in Oslo on March 18, 2018, Burke ended his active career. It was the last race of the 2017/18 season for the US team , as the association had decided to boycott the last World Cup in Tyumen, Russia .
