Edgars Piksons

Edgars Piksons (born July 17, 1983 in Cēsis ) is a former Latvian biathlete .

Edgars Piksons works as a border guard and lives in Cesis. The married athlete started for the Police Sport Club and was trained by Ilgonus Pogulis. He started biathlon in 1996 and has been a member of the Latvian national team since 2003. In 2000 he appeared in Zakopane for the first time at a junior European championship. As in Haute-Maurienne the following year, his results were not worth mentioning. In 2002 he won bronze in the relay in Kontiolahti and was fourth in the individual. In 2003 he was sixth in season in Forni Avoltri . The last European Junior Championship he played in Minsk without major success . In 2000 Piksons was also used for the first time at a Junior World Championship. In Hochfilzen he did not achieve any outstanding placements. Things went better the following year in Khanty-Mansiysk , where he finished fifth with the relay. In 2002 in Ridnaun a 17th place in the individual was the best result. 2003 in Kościelisko in the sprint and at his last Junior World Championships in Haute Maurienne in the individual, he finished sixth in each of his best placings.

In 2001 Piksons made his debut in Ruhpolding in the Biathlon World Cup . In his first race he finished 90th in the sprint. At the 2006 European Championships in Langdorf , Piksons was able to celebrate his greatest success so far by winning the silver medal in the pursuit behind Sjarhej Nowikau after he was only 14th in the sprint. The 2007 European Championship in Bansko was less successful . The best result at the 2007 Biathlon World Championships was 12th place with the Latvian relay. At the 2010 World Cup in Oberhof, he achieved his best relay result in seventh place. Edgars Piksons participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was the 37th place in the individual. That is his best result in a World Cup race and the first place in the points. With the relay he finished 19th. For the first time in the top ten Piksons ran at the 2011 Biathlon World Championships in the sprint. There he took 8th place

In 2014, Piksons tested positive for 19-norandrosterone and was suspended by the world association. He decided not to open the B sample and ended his career.
