Stian Eckhoff (born September 3, 1979 in Trondheim ) is a former Norwegian biathlete and biathlon trainer.

Career

Eckhoff started biathlon at the age of ten and was accepted into the junior national team of Norway at the age of 17. From 2000 he started in the World Cup. He celebrated his first World Cup victory in 2004 in Östersund ( Sweden ) in the sprint. He finished the 2004/2005 season as 10th of the overall World Cup and was second best Norwegian behind Ole Einar Bjørndalen . Eckhoff's greatest success was winning the relay world title in 2005 in Hochfilzen ( Austria ). In the summer of 2009 he announced his retirement from active sports. After his active career, he became a trainer and coached the Norwegian women's national team from the 2014/15 season . At the end of the 2017/18 Olympic season , he resigned from this position for personal reasons. His successors were Sverre Waaler Kaas and Patrick Oberegger .

Eckhoff is engaged to the Norwegian biathlete Anne Ingstadbjørg and lives with her in Trondheim. His sisters Kaja and Tiril were or are also biathletes.
