Peter Sendel (born March 6, 1972 in Ilmenau ) is a former German biathlete.

Career

Peter Sendel has dedicated himself to biathlon since 1978 . He was considered a sure shooter and was therefore often used in relay competitions. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , he won the gold medal with the relay, also with the relay he achieved a silver medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City .

For this he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on May 6, 2002 .

On December 26, 2004, he surprisingly announced his immediate retirement from competitive sport and two days later he was playing his last competition with Katrin Apel at the World Team Challenge . After his active career Sendel became a biathlon coach. He became national coach of the IBU men's squad.

Sendel is married and lives with his wife in Erfurt. He has 3 children.

He is an honorary citizen of Großbreitenbach and Jüchsen.
