Vladimir Petrowitsch Dratschow ( Russian Владимир Петрович Драчёв , Belarusian Уладзімер Драчоў / Uladsimer Dratschou ; born March 7, 1966 in Petrozavodsk ) is a former Russian-Belarusian biathlete . He started for Russia until 2002 , then for the Belarusian biathlon team.

Life

The short Dratschow stood out with his special running style, which was due to his short legs compared to his competitors. At the Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding in 1996 , he was nicknamed "Drummer in the Snow".

He won a total of four gold medals at world championships, including two individual and two team titles. At the Olympic Games he won a silver medal ( 1994 ) and a bronze medal ( 1998 ) , each with Russian relay teams .

In 2018 Drachev was elected the new President of the Russian Biathlon Union. After persistent criticism of his administration, he resigned prematurely in June 2020. Viktor Maigurow was elected to succeed him.
