history

The place was formerly an independent Werkweiler located on the Zschopau and was first mentioned in church records in 1663. He belonged to the Augustusburg office .

August Schumann mentions Zschopenthal in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1826 regarding a. a .:

“The road from Zschopau also leads through the village via Schellenberg to Oederan and via Waldkirchen to Freiberg and Dresden ; just like those from Chemnitz to Lengefeld and Olbernhau . A covered bridge goes over the Zschopau, in front of which there is a high and picturesque weir.
The whole place understands: on the left bank of the river the inn, the so-called old hammer, which actually belongs to the Witzschdorf community and Unter's Marienberger Bergamt, and 6  cottages , 2 of which are completely new located away from the town on Zschopauer Strasse; on the right bank, on the other hand, the paint factory itself, its grinding and cutting mill, a small brickworks, and 3 cottages. The total number of residents goes up to about 100, and they are mostly busy at work. "

Zschopenthal and the estate district Blaufarbenwerk Zschopenthal were incorporated into Waldkirchen on June 1, 1850. On November 27, 1918, Waldkirchen was renamed Waldkirchen-Zschopenthal . The place name was on October 1, 1939 by order of the Reich Governor Martin Mutschmann in Waldkirchen / Erzgeb. changed. The old place name can still be read today on the station building.

In Zschopenthal there is a flour mill that is still producing today, as well as the building of the Zschopenthal blue paint factory, founded in 1687 and relocated to Niederpfannenstiel in 1835 .
