Christian Friedrich Krafft (born March 30, 1716 in Zschopenthal ; † April 13, 1775 ibid) was a German painter who worked in the central Ore Mountains , in Frankenberg and in the Grossenhain area and also worked as a teacher.

Life

Christian Friedrich Krafft was born as the son of Michael Krafft and his wife Maria Catharina, née Lange, from Württemberg, a worker at the Zschopenthal blue paint factory . On November 9th, 1739, he married Johann Charlotte Butter, the daughter of the estate leaseholder Gabriel Butter, in Zschopau . At that time, Krafft was referred to as "Kunstmahler in Gornau ". In 1744 and 1745, together with the later sculptor Johann Gottfried Stecher , he set and gilded the altar of the Frankenberg town church St. Aegidien, built by Johann Gottlieb Ohndorff from 1740–1745 . He also made two paintings for the altar, which is no longer preserved today.

In 1749 and 1750 Krafft is referred to as a resident painter in Großenhain and since 1752 he can be traced back to his place of birth, Zschopenthal. There he worked as a church school teacher from 1756 and also created portraits and drawings. While none of the portraits has become known so far, a pen drawing signed by CF Krafft by the Zschopenthal blue color factory from 1765 has survived. In 1775 Krafft died in Zschopenthal.
