Johann Gottfried Stecher
Johann Gottfried Stecher (born July 17, 1718 in Ehrenberg ( Kriebstein ), † December 17, 1776 in Penig ) was a carpenter and sculptor .
Life
Johann Gottfried Stecher was born as the son of the carpenter Christoph Stecher and his wife Anna Elisabeth, née Pachtmann. The family then lived briefly in Arnsdorf , Pappendorf and moved to Hainichen in 1736 . The carpenter / sculptor lived there until he moved to Penig in autumn 1768 , where he died on December 17, 1776. In Hainichen he had ten children with his first wife Beata Sibylle Zehl (married in 1739). After her death, the sculptor married Johanna Dorothea Müller, a sculptor's daughter from Frankenberg in 1762 , with whom he had two more children in Hainichen and four in Penig. The surviving sons all became sculptors: Friedrich Gottlob (1750–1798) in Hainichen , Friedrich Ernst (* 1755) in Taucha , Friedrich Gottlieb (1756–1792) in Grimma , Christian Friedrich (1759–1787) in Oschatz , Karl Christoph (1765 –1801) again in Grimma and Friedrich August (1769–1809) again in Oschatz. Only two works by these sons are known - the altars in the village churches of Rüsseina and Kirchbach by Friedrich Gottlob Stecher, who lives in Hainichen.
Johann Gottfried Stecher's older brother, Johann Christoph Stecher, who lives in Arnsdorf near Hainichen, created the somewhat unsuccessful altar for the church in Altmittweida in 1755 , of which the large central relief has been preserved.
