Bernd Hellmich (born June 2, 1959 in Scheibe-Alsbach , Suhl district , GDR ) is a former German biathlete .

Life

Bernd Hellmich started for the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof . He was junior sprint world champion in Sarajevo in 1980 .

In 1981 he was used in Lahti for the first time at a biathlon world championship and was 12th in the sprint race. A year later he was at the Biathlon World Championships 1982 in Minsk alongside Frank Ullrich , Mathias Jung and Mathias Jacob world champion in the relay. He finished eighth in the individual.

He could not win a title at GDR championships, was third in the relay in 1981 and 1983 , and in 1982 he was runner-up in the individual.
