The GDR biathlon championships were held for the 24th time in 1982 and took place from March 11th to 14th in the Zinnwald Hofmannsloch biathlon stadium. Both Frank Ullrich and Mathias Jacob were able to defend their titles from the previous year. In addition, the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof managed to defend the season title for the only time in the club's history. So Ullrich and Jacob were again double champions. The championships were dominated by the biathletes from Oberhof, only Frank-Peter Roetsch was able to win one of the medals in the individual races as runner-up.
