GDR championships in biathlon 1972

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GDR biathlon championships were held for the 15th time in 1972 . Herbert Wiegand won his first and only individual title. After seven years and six titles in a row, it was not the SG Dynamo Zinnwald that won the relay title for the first time , but the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof . Not only the tin forests, but also the first season of the Oberhofer were duped by the second season of Oberhof.

The title fights were organized by Dynamo Zinnwald , which had to fight with bad weather problems and due to lack of snow could only organize the championships at a catch-up date under persistently poor conditions. With the local snow remnants, only a 1.6-kilometer stretch could be prepared. The defeat of the Zinnwälder, which made up the entire GDR team at the Olympic Games of the year, was enormous due to the racing tactics of Oberhof coach Günter Deinert . Not only in the individual and the men's relay, but also in the juniors won all four possible titles with Reinhard Riese in the individual and Gerhard Möller , Andreas Tresselt and Reinhard Riese with the relay.
