Simo Halonen (born March 21, 1947 in Taipalsaari ) is a former Finnish biathlete . Alongside Heikki Ikola and Juhani Suutarinen , he is the most successful Finnish biathlete of the 1970s.

Simo Halonen first came to biathlon in the military and only started doing it at the age of 25. He took part in all biathlon world championships between 1974 and 1979 , but missed the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck due to an injury to his leg. At his first Biathlon World Championships in Minsk in 1974 he just missed a medal in the sprint as fifth, which he won alongside Henrik Flöjt , Juhani Suutarinen and Heikki Ikola in the relay race with silver behind the Soviet Union. In the individual he was 14. In 1975 the Finn was able to achieve his greatest success in Antholz with the relay in the cast of the previous year and won gold with the relay. In the individual he was ranked 30. In Vingrom he won 1977 with Erkki Antila , Raimo Seppänen and Heikki Ikola in the relay race behind the Soviet Union again the silver medal and was also seventh in the individual and 28th in the sprint. Only in 1978 in Hochfilzen could he not win a medal at a world championship and finished 24th in the sprint and seventh in the individual. In his last participation in world championships, the 1979 World Championships in Ruhpolding , he and his team mates from the 1977 silver relay won the silver medal behind the GDR. He was next to Ikola the only part of the Finnish relay of the four world championships in which the Finnish relay won medals between 1974 and 1979, which was always part of the medal relay. He was 18th in singles. In 1976 he won the Finnish singles title.
