Raivis Zīmelis (born August 18, 1976 in Madona ) is a former Latvian biathlete .

Career

The former sports student and current policeman Raivis Zīmelis began biathlon in 1987. In 1996 he made his World Cup debut in Lillehammer as 87th in a sprint race. At the end of the season he was able to take part in the biathlon world championships in Osrblie for the first time . He was 79th in the individual. In 1999 he was able to place himself significantly for the first time as ninth with the relay in Antholz . In 2001 Zīmelis was able to win his first World Cup points in Osrblie as 30th in the sprint. In the same season he finished seventh in the Antholz sprint, his best ever World Cup placement. The 2003 European Championships went very well for him. In Forni Avoltri he was fifth in the sprint and ninth in the pursuit. Zīmelis' last competitions he played at his only Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006 . There he was 49th in the sprint, 46th in the pursuit and 16th with the relay.
