Jānis Bērziņš (biathlete)

Jānis Bērziņš (born January 9, 1982 in Cēsis ) is a Latvian biathlete .

Jānis Bērziņš is a trained border police officer. He has been practicing biathlon since 1992, since 2003 as a member of the Latvian national team. He was trained by Vitālijs Urbanovičs and starts for Sport Club Cēsis . He is also the President of the Latvian Biathlon Association.

2000 Bērziņš made his debut in Zakopane at the Junior European Championships without achieving significant success. Likewise at the Junior World Championships in Hochfilzen , which will take place shortly afterwards . At the beginning of the 2000/01 season he made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup . In Hochfilzen he was 109th in the sprint. The first notable successes came in 2002 in Kontiolahti at the Junior European Championships. He won bronze medals in singles and in the relay. His start at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City was unsuccessful. Bērziņš also competed in the European Cup several times. In Gurnigel he won the pursuit in 2003 after a third place in the sprint.

In 2004 Bērziņš started for the first time, but without any major success, at the biathlon world championships that took place in Oberhof that year . In the following season he won a single in Turin at the pre-Olympic test world cup in 26th place for the first time. He won more points at the Biathlon World Championships in 2005 in Hochfilzen when he was 26th in the sprint. Bērziņš start at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin brought again no results worth mentioning, although he was used in all races except the mass start. The 2006/07 season brought Antholz Bērziņš's best individual World Cup placement so far with a 24th place .
