Janez Ožbolt (born August 22, 1970 in Postojna ) is a Slovenian biathlete .

Janez Ožbolt is an instructor in the Slovenian military. The family man decided in 1985 at the age of 13 to switch from football to biathlon. He is the only Slovenian biathlete of his generation who did not get to biathlon through cross-country skiing . The athlete from SK Kovinoplastika Loz was promoted to the national team in 1986.

In the Biathlon World Cup , Ožbolt made his debut in Albertville while still wearing the Yugoslav jersey . In a sprint race that Frank Luck won, he finished 63rd. In 1991, he took part in his first of ten world championships in Lahti . The best result was a 23rd place in the individual. In Albertville he ran for the first time in 1992 at the Winter Olympics and achieved a 33rd place in singles as the best result. By 2006 he should take part in all four other games. In Antholz in 1993, Ožbolt won individual World Cup points for the first time as 20th. The 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer were very successful for the Slovenian . In the individual he was 29th, in the sprint he took a very good ninth place. With the relay he was tenth. In the following season, with a seventh place in the sprint, he achieved a placement in the top ten for the first time and at the same time the best World Cup placement of his career.

Another very good result Ožbolt achieved in the team competition at the 1997 World Championships in Osrblie . In the 1997 World Cup in Nagano, a third place came with the relay. In 1998 he entered the third world championships in summer biathlon in Osrblie and was 31st in the sprint and 29th in the pursuit. Also at the Biathlon World Championships in 1999 he achieved his best result with a seventh place with the relay in this competition. In 2001 Ožbolt first took part in the military world championships in Jericho and reached an 18th place in the sprint. In his almost 20-year career, Ožbolt won World Cup points in 11 seasons. He had his best season in 2000/01 , when he was able to occupy a 30th place in the overall World Cup.
