Janez Marič (born January 1, 1975 in Kranj ) is a former Slovenian biathlete .

The instructor has been practicing biathlon with the Slovenian military since 1997, and has been a member of the Slovenian national team for just as long. The athlete , who started for SK Bled , made his debut in the 1998 Biathlon World Cup at his home race in Pokljuka , where he was 100th in the sprint. In the next two years it was used again and again and was able to improve steadily. In Oberhof in 2000 he was 22nd in the sprint for the first time to win points. At a mass start in Osrblie in 2001 , he came tenth in the top 10 for the first time. Osrblie remained a good place for him, the following year he finished second in the sprint behind Raphaël Poirée . Shortly afterwards he won his first and so far only World Cup race (individual) in Östersund .

Marič took part in the Olympic Games twice. Both in 2002 in Salt Lake City as well as in 2006 in Turin was his best result of tenth place with the Slovenian season. In both games he started in the singles, in the sprint and in the pursuit and always came in between 38 and 44 places.

Between 1999 and 2009 Marič took part in seven world championships . The 2004 title fights in Oberhof were particularly successful for him . In individual and sprint he reached 15th place, 18th in pursuit and 10th in mass start. 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk he reached fifth place with the relay. The best result so far was a fourth place with the mixed relay at the 2007 world championships in Antholz . 2009 Marič was able to improve his World Cup record in the title fights in Pyeongchang. He finished 10th in the sprint and eleventh in the mass start. Janez Marič took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was 27th in the sprint. With the relay he finished 17th.
