Tomasz Sikora (born December 21, 1973 in Wodzisław Śląski ) is a former Polish biathlete who competed for the NGKS Dynamit Chorzow .

Career

Sikora reached second place over 10 km at the Junior World Championships in 1993 and was world champion over 20 km at the Biathlon World Championships in 1995 . He won silver at the 2004 World Championships again over the 20 km. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he won the silver medal in the 15 km mass start.

After his world title in 1995 , Tomasz Sikora had to wait eleven years for his second victory; this he succeeded on March 19, 2006 in the mass start in Kontiolahti . In the 2005/06 season, the Pole won the World Cup discipline in sprint. Still, it took almost two years before he could celebrate his next success. On January 5, 2008, he emerged as the winner in the Oberhof sprint . Another victory in the mass start he managed on March 9, 2008 in Khanty-Mansiysk . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , Sikora won a pursuit race for the first time in Östersund. Further podium placements and top 10 results followed in the course of the season, so that in the end Tomasz Sikora's most successful World Cup season was Tomasz Sikora's most successful World Cup with second place in the overall World Cup and third in the Pursuit discipline. Tomasz Sikora took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. His best result was the 7th place in the individual. In the mass start he was 11th in the sprint 29th and in the pursuit Sikora took 18th place.

After the 2011/12 season he ended his sporting career. With six titles and 14 medals in total , Sikora is still the most successful participant in the European biathlon championships.
