Sven "Ulle" Ulreich (born August 3, 1988 in Schorndorf ) is a German football goalkeeper . After a total of 17 years with VfB Stuttgart , he has been under contract with FC Bayern Munich since 2015 .

Career

Adolescence

Ulreich started playing football at TSV Lichtenwald in the municipality of the same name in the Esslingen district at the age of five . Through TSV Schornbach, a district club in his place of birth, he got into the youth department of VfB Stuttgart in 1998 after he was discovered on a day of inspection of the club.

In 2005 he won the German A youth championship as part of the team . A serious shoulder injury sustained in the 2005/06 season temporarily jeopardized the continuation of his career and kept him away from the game for a year. After he had played 22 of 23 games for the A youth team , he made his debut on March 3, 2007 for the second team in the Regionalliga Süd in a goalless draw at home against SV Wehen Wiesbaden . Nine regional league games followed, and 19 in the following season.

After good performance in the regional league team, Ulreich moved up in January 2008 as the successor to Michael Langer , who had switched to SC Freiburg , in the professional team under head coach Armin Veh and received a licensed player's contract valid until June 30, 2011. He made his Bundesliga debut on February 9, 2008 when he lost 3-1 at home to Hertha BSC ; ten more missions followed (nine of them in a row) by the end of the season. In the following season he played 36 of 38 games exclusively for the second team in the newly created 3rd division . He remained the third goalkeeper of the professional team behind Jens Lehmann and Alexander Stolz . In the 2009/10 season he played eight third division and four Bundesliga games, on April 6, 2010, he extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart prematurely until the end of June 2013, before joining Jens Lehmann in the 2010/11 season , who started his career last season 2009/10 had ended when the goalkeeper succeeded. Ulreich did not miss any of the 102 Bundesliga games in the three seasons up to 2013 and was featured 17 times in Europa League games during this time . He made his debut at international club level on September 16, 2010 in a 3-0 victory in the group game against Young Boys Bern in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart . His good performance continued, so that in the winter break of 2011/12, after completing 17 games, he was the top - rated Bundesliga goalkeeper in both the kicker sports magazine and the sports website sportal.de. From the second Bundesliga matchday on, Neuer was back in goal, but injured himself again a few weeks later and was out for the rest of the season, in which Ulreich played all the games and was able to distinguish himself several times.

In the following season 2018/19 he also represented Manuel Neuer, who was injured again in the season-end spurt. In total, he stood between the posts in twelve competitive games and won the double with the team at the end of the season . In the season 2019/20 Ulreich won his fifth German championship. By winning the cup and winning the UEFA Champions League , he won the triple in 2020 .

His contract with FC Bayern Munich runs until June 30, 2021.

National team

Ulreich made his debut in the national jersey on August 26, 2003 in Weil am Rhein in the 5-0 victory of the U16 national team against the Swiss team. His second international match in this age group was lost on March 24, 2004 in Hyères with 2: 4 against the selection of France.

For the qualifying matches for the European Championship 2021 against the national teams from Belarus and Estonia on June 8 and 11, 2019 , he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team by Bernd Leno due to a persistent thumb injury , but was not used in these.
