Tobias Sippel at 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2011)

Sippel played as a goalkeeper at 1. FC Kaiserslautern since 1998 , after coming from SV 1911 Bad Dürkheim. From the second division season 2006/07 he was part of the professional squad. Previously, he had been in goal for the second team in the Regionalliga and the Oberliga .

Like his predecessors Roman Weidenfeller , Tim Wiese and Florian Fromlowitz , he was trained by Gerry Ehrmann .

On October 19, 2007, Sippel was substituted in for the injured goalkeeper Florian Fromlowitz in the second division game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and so he made his first professional appearance. He played all remaining games of the 2007/08 season and extended his contract to 2011 at the beginning of 2008. After moving from Fromlowitz to Hannover 96 , Sippel was also the number 1 of the Palatinate team on the jersey for the 2008/09 season .

After a broken arm in the 2008/09 season , he temporarily lost his regular place to Luis Robles , but was able to recapture it for the 2009/10 season . In 2010 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with FCK . In January 2011, he extended his contract for two more years until 2013. Two months later, he lost his regular position for the second time in his professional career: Sippel was initially represented by Kevin Trapp because of flu . Trapp also played the remaining games of the season. During the summer break, the goalkeeper question was open again, but in the end Trapp remained “number one” at the beginning of the new 2011/12 season . After an injury to Trapps, Sippel was again the goalkeeper in the second half of the season. After relegation to the second division in 2011/12 and Trapp's move to Eintracht Frankfurt , Sippel was again number 1 in goal for FCK. Before the 2012/13 season, he extended his contract prematurely until June 30, 2015.

For the season 2015/16 changed Sippel in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach as reserve goalkeeper behind Yann Sommer . He received a contract until June 30, 2018. He made his competitive debut for Borussia in the 2-0 home win in the league against VfL Wolfsburg on October 3, 2015.

At the end of January 2017, Sippel prematurely extended his contract in Gladbach for another year until 2019.

National team

On February 5, 2008 Sippel was nominated for the international match in Koblenz against Belgium for the first time by Dieter Eilts for the U-21 national team . He had his first appearance for the U-21 selection on September 5, 2008 in Wuppertal against Northern Ireland . In total, he came up with nine games for selection in two years.

After the suicide of Robert Enke and the injury-induced loss René Adler's head coach had to Joachim Loew for the forthcoming World Cup for new goalkeeper national team around. Among other things, he nominated Tobias Sippel on May 6, 2010 for a test match against Malta on May 13, 2010 in Aachen (result 3: 0). In the course of this game, all six field players were substituted on from the bench - including Mats Hummels , who made his debut that evening; Sippel, however, did not play because the new number 1 Manuel Neuer was in goal for the full 90 minutes. Later Sippel was not reassigned to the team. Besides Robin Knoche, he is the only national player in the long tenure of national coach Joachim Löw who was nominated and not used.

Awards
