Ramy Bensebaini ( Arabic رامي بن سبعيني, DMG Rāmī bin Sabʿīnī ; * April 16, 1995 in Constantine ) is an Algerian football player who can be used in defense as a center and left-back. He is under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Bundesliga and is an Algerian national player .

Career

society

Ramy Bensebaini was born in the east Algerian city of Constantine , where he joined the local CS Constantine at the age of 10 . In 2007 he joined the academy of Paradou AC in Algiers , which has a very special philosophy in which the players, for example, complete a large part of their football training barefoot. There he made the leap into the club's professional squad at the end of the 2012/13 season and played in the second Algerian league, but ultimately rose with the club in the third division.

In July 2013 he completed a trial training session at the Portuguese top club FC Porto and the London club Arsenal FC , neither of which resulted in a commitment. After his stay at Paradou AC he was able to establish himself as a regular player, but missed the immediate re-emergence with his club.

In the summer of 2014, Bensebaini was awarded to the Belgian first division club Lierse SK , where at the age of only 19 he was also part of the team and thus aroused the interest of numerous European clubs.

In July 2015, Paradou AC decided to award him again, which is why Bensebaini signed a loan deal with French HSC Montpellier . He was also able to assert himself as a regular player in Ligue 1 in the medium term, which led to his first appointment to the Algerian national team in November 2015.

After 22 appearances in the top French league, he was signed by league competitor Stade Rennes in the summer of 2016 and given a four-year contract. With the club, Bensebaini won the national cup in the 2018/19 season with an 8: 7 on penalties against Paris Saint-Germain FC , where he was one of the successful penalty takers.

In August 2019, he switched to the German Bundesliga to Borussia Mönchengladbach , where the Algerian signed a contract that was valid until June 2023.

By participating in the Africa Cup with the Algerian national team, Bensebaini entered the season preparation late. As a result, he only played the first game for his new club on matchday four, when he was on the pitch for 90 minutes in the 1-0 win in Cologne . In the following years he regularly alternated with long-time regular Oscar Wendt in the position of left-back. Wendt was used more often in the Bundesliga, while Bensebaini played more often in the Europa League . In the Bundesliga, he scored his first competitive goal for Borussia on matchday 11 in a 3-1 win against Werder Bremen . Two game days later, he decided the 2-1 win against FC Bayern Munich with a header from a corner and a converted penalty in injury time.

National team

After Bensebaini had drawn attention by his performances in the first French league, he was in November, 2015 by national coach Christian Gourcuff in the Algerian senior team appointed after two qualifiers with in July Algerian U-23 team completed . However, he remained without commitment. After another nomination in March 2016, Bensebaini was no longer considered under Gourcuff's successors Nabil Neghiz and Milovan Rajevac in the 2016 calendar year.

In January 2017, Bensebaini was finally appointed to the final squad for the Africa Cup 2017 . In 2019 , the defender won this competition, playing in six of the seven tournament games, from the start.
