Jonas Hofmann (born July 14, 1992 in Heidelberg ) is a German soccer player . The midfielder is under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach .

Career

societies

Hofmann started in the bambini team of FC Rot in the municipality of St. Leon-Rot and stayed there until the second year of the D youth team, before moving to the youth team of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in 2004 . In the A-youth season 2010/11 he played in the A-Juniors Bundesliga and scored nine goals in 18 games. In April 2011 he made his debut in the U23 of TSG in a 1-0 away win against the second team from TSV 1860 Munich . At the end of the regional league season Hofmann came to five league games in which he scored two goals.

For the 2011/12 season Hofmann moved to Borussia Dortmund II . He made his league debut in the black and yellow jersey on August 6th in the 2-0 away win at 1. FC Kaiserslautern II and scored his first goal of the season. On September 10th (7th matchday) he managed a brace in a 4-0 away win against the second team from arch-rivals FC Schalke 04 . After the second team was 14 points behind Sportfreunde Lotte at the end of the first half of the season and was thus the only promotion place, the team started a race to catch up in the second half of the season, achieved 52 of a maximum of 57 possible points and thus rose one point ahead of Lotte in the 3rd football league 2012/13 . Hofmann contributed to this with ten goals and scored two goals in a 5-3 victory in the decisive game on the last matchday at Wuppertaler SV .

Due to the large number of EM drivers, he completed the preparation for the 2012/13 season with the BVB professionals. Before that, he had participated in the team building event of the U-23 team in Sweden . On July 11, he scored the 2-1 winning goal in the preparatory game against SV Meppen and imitated Mario Balotelli's goal celebration in his second goal against Germany . On July 21, he made his debut in the 3rd division in the 2-0 defeat at VfL Osnabrück .

On December 16, 2012 Hofmann made his debut in the Bundesliga when he came on for Mario Götze in the 89th minute of the 3-1 away win against his old club, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . In January 2013 he took part in the first team's training camp in La Manga del Mar Menor , Spain in preparation for the second half of the 2012/13 season. On April 6, 2013 Hofmann was in the BVB's starting line-up for the first time in the 4-2 home win against FC Augsburg and prepared for Julian Schieber's 2-2 equalizer .

Hofmann's professional contract in Dortmund was dated to 2018. Since the 2013/14 season he was an integral part of the professional team and wore the shirt number 7. On August 18, 2013, he scored his first Bundesliga goal as a substitute in the home game against Eintracht Braunschweig (2-1). His second Bundesliga goal followed on April 12, 2014 in a 3-0 away win against FC Bayern Munich .

On September 1, 2014, Hofmann moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 on loan until the end of the 2014/15 season . On October 18, he scored his first home goal for Mainz in the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg (2-1) with the goal to make it 1-0 and tore an outer ligament in the further course of the game. He played a total of ten games for Mainz and scored three goals.

For the season 2015/16 returned to Dortmund Hofmann back, but could under new coach Thomas Tuchel not prevail and came to only seven Bundesliga appearances in which he scored a goal.

During the 2015/16 winter break, he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach . On October 21, 2018, he scored three goals in a 4-0 win in the Bundesliga game against Mainz 05. His contract in Mönchengladbach runs until 2023.

National team

Hofmann played for the U-18 national team between 2009 and 2010 . His last international match for the U-18 national team was against France on March 25, 2010. On August 13, 2013 Hofmann made his debut for the German U-21 national team in a friendly against France in the Dreisamstadion in Freiburg im Breisgau . He came on in the 60th minute for Leon Goretzka .

family

Hofmann comes from a family of handball players . Grandfather Erwin and mother Birgit were active in this sport, father Harald played for TSV Rot in the 2nd handball Bundesliga . Brother Benjamin (* 1988) played soccer for Astoria Walldorf in the Southwest Regional Soccer League for several years . He has been part of the club's second team since the 2019/20 season.
