Oscar Joakim Wendt (born October 24, 1985 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish football player .
Career
societies
Wendt started playing soccer at IFK Skövde at the age of five . In 2003 he moved to IFK Göteborg , for whom he mainly played in the youth for the first two seasons, but had already had a few short appearances in the Allsvenskan . After he had fought for a regular place in 2005, he moved to FC Copenhagen in the summer of 2006 , with whom he won four Danish national championships in 2007 and 2009 to 2011.
After FC Copenhagen became the first Danish team to reach the round of 16 in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League , Wendt moved to the German Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, with a contract period initially until 2014. He made his debut for Borussia on August 8th Matchday of the 2011/12 season against SC Freiburg . He scored his first competitive goal in the 2011/12 DFB Cup quarter-finals against Hertha BSC . In this season, in which his club reached fourth place in the table and thus qualification for the Champions League, Wendt could not prevail against team captain Filip Daems and only made 14 appearances. In the following season 2012/13 Wendt was initially a substitute before Daems suffered an adductor injury towards the end of the first half of the season . Wendt was then in the starting line-up for the last eight games of the first half of the season. He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach on November 11, 2012 in a 4-2 away win at SpVgg Greuther Fürth . In the game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Augsburg on January 26, 2019, Wendt played his 184th Bundesliga game and thus played the most Bundesliga appearances by a foreign player for Borussia. On June 4, 2020, his contract was extended for another year and will now run until 2021.
National team
Wendt made his debut on January 14, 2007 in the 2-0 defeat by Venezuela during a South American tour in the Swedish national team . He also played for Sweden's U21 team , for which he made his debut in 2006. National coach Erik Hamrén did not nominate him for the 2016 European Championship in France ; Hemrén's successor Janne Andersson appointed him again.
In March 2017, Wendt resigned from the national team after 28 appearances.
