Florian Neuhaus (born March 16, 1997 in Landsberg am Lech ) is a German professional footballer . The midfielder is under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach and is a multiple German junior national player.

Career

Neuhaus comes from the youth department of TSV 1860 Munich . He first attracted media attention when he scored the 2-1 winner with a shot from 50 meters in the first leg of the semi-finals of the 2016 German A-Junior Championship against Borussia Dortmund's U-19 team. The goal was voted goal of the month for May by the spectators of the sports show .

In the 2016/17 season he was initially used for the second team of the Munich Lions in the Regionalliga Bayern . He made his professional debut on October 21, 2016 in the 2nd Bundesliga , when he was part of the starting line-up in a 1: 2 away defeat against VfB Stuttgart . After relegation with TSV, Neuhaus left the club after 7 goals and 6 assists in 12 games.

In July 2017, the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach acquired the transfer rights to Neuhaus, provided him with a "long-term" contract and immediately loaned him to the second division Fortuna Düsseldorf for the 2017/18 season . Neuhaus played for Fortuna in 27 second division games and scored six goals. At the end of the season he rose to the Bundesliga as a second division champion with Fortuna Düsseldorf .

In the 2018/19 season Neuhaus was part of Borussia Mönchengladbach's Bundesliga squad for the first time. and celebrated his starting line-up debut in the top division on August 25, 2018 in a 2-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen . On December 9, 2018, the 14th matchday, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 3-0 home win against VfB Stuttgart . He ended the season with 32 Bundesliga appearances and three goals.

In the following season 2019/20 Neuhaus was also a regular player and scored 4 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances. On November 19, the association announced a contract extension by three years until summer 2024.

National team

Neuhaus was part of the German U-20 national team from September 2016 to March 2017 . On September 1, 2016, he made his first appearance for this in a 0-1 defeat against Italy . He played a total of five games.

Under DFB coach Stefan Kuntz , Neuhaus made his debut on September 1, 2017 in the 1: 2 defeat against Hungary in the German U-21 national team . On November 14, 2017, he scored his only goal for this team in a 5-2 win in Israel . Neuhaus took part in the U21 European Championship 2019 in Italy and San Marino , in which the German team lost 2-1 to Spain in the final . He was used in all five tournament games, three times from the start.

For two games in the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League in September 2020, national coach Löw nominated the offensive player for the first time for the A selection .
