Club career

Youth and Karlsruher SC

Stindl started playing football in the youth department of TSV Wiesental when he was three years old and in 2000, at the age of twelve, moved to the youth department of Karlsruher SC . After he had already come to some appearances in the regional league team as a youth player in 2006/07 , he became a regular player in the 2007/08 season. During the winter break, he completed several training units with the professional team and traveled with them to the training camp in Belek . Before that, he had already participated in two indoor tournaments. In the second half of the 2007/08 season he sat on the bench a few times with the professionals.

He made his Bundesliga debut on March 15, 2008 in the game against Eintracht Frankfurt , when he came on for Michael Mutzel in the 81st minute . In the 2008/09 season , Stindl scored his first Bundesliga goal on November 29, 2008 against Hannover 96 . In the second half of the season he was used more and more by coach Edmund Becker , but the KSC rose from the Bundesliga at the end of the season. Stindl played 23 Bundesliga games and scored four goals. In the second Bundesliga 2009/10 , the attacking midfielder was part of the Baden team.

For the 2010/11 season , Stindl moved to Bundesliga club Hannover 96 . His contract initially ran for three years and was valid for both the first and second Bundesliga. He scored his first goal for Hanover on November 20, 2010 against Hamburger SV . In April 2012 he extended his contract prematurely by three years until June 30, 2016. After Steven Cherundolo's career ended , Stindl was appointed team captain of Hannover 96. Due to his performance in the 2014/15 season , Stindl aroused the interest of many clubs, including Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund . He did not extend his contract with Hannover 96.

Borussia Monchengladbach

For the 2015/16 season , Stindl moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach after 131 league games for Hannover 96 . There he received a five-year contract. He played his first league game on August 15, 2015 against Borussia Dortmund . He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Borussia on August 30, 2015 ( 3rd matchday ) in the 2-1 away defeat against Werder Bremen with the equalizer. On September 30, 2015, he scored the first goal of Mönchengladbach in the Champions League in the second group game against Manchester City .

For the 2016/17 season , Stindl was named captain in Mönchengladbach after the previous team captain Martin Stranzl ended his career and his deputy Granit Xhaka left the club for Arsenal . On February 23, 2017, Stindl scored three goals within eleven minutes after falling 2-0 in the second leg of the Europa League intermediate round at Fiorentina ; Borussia Mönchengladbach won the game 4: 2 and thus reached the round of 16 of the competition after the 0-1 home defeat in the first leg, in which the team then narrowly eliminated against Schalke 04 .

In May 2017, Stindl extended its contract term prematurely by another year until June 30, 2021. With the 9th place in the table at the end of the season, Stindl missed the international competitions with Mönchengladbach. On April 13, 2019, he was seriously injured again when he collided with Matthias Ostrzolek in the first minute of the 1-0 win at Hannover 96 and broke his shin.
