In April 2012 Knoche signed a professional contract until June 30, 2015, which he extended early in August 2013. He won the DFB Cup with Wolfsburg in the 2014/2015 season .

In the 2015/16 season Knoche missed the entire first half of the season due to an ankle injury and only made his first appearance on matchday 20, but from then on he was able to establish himself in the regular team of VfL Wolfsburg. He extended his contract again, now with a term until the end of the 2019/20 season. In the Bundesliga seasons 2016/17 (23 league games), 2017/18 (24 league games) and 2018/19 (31 league games) he was an important part of the Bundesliga team's central defense .

In the 2019/20 Bundesliga season , he lost his regular place twice over the course of the season : First in the first half of the season from matchday 8 against Jeffrey Bruma , but was able to get it back after Marcel Tisserand was suspended from red . After the game was interrupted for several weeks due to the Covid 19 pandemic , Marin Pongracic was given preference over Knoche.
