Marvin Friedrich (born December 13, 1995 in Kassel ) is a German football player .

Club career

Beginnings

Friedrich worked for the FSC Guxhagen from 2002 to 2008 . After six years he moved on to OSC Vellmar . There he played for two years and then went to the youth department of SC Paderborn 07 .

In 2011, Friedrich moved to the youth training center of FC Schalke 04 . At Schalke U-17, he played in various positions within the back four. In the next two years in the U19, he was both on the defensive and as a goal setter, and in the UEFA Youth League he was a permanent member. In March 2014 he signed a contract as a professional that ran until June 30, 2017. After he was already used on August 23, 2014 in the regional football league West in the 2nd team of Schalke, he made his competitive debut in the Bundesliga on September 13, 2014, the 3rd matchday of the 2014/15 season , as he in the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 70th minute for Dennis Aogo was substituted. FC Augsburg

For the 2016/17 season , Friedrich moved to FC Augsburg . His contract ran until 2019. In his first year he was not in the first team, but 13 times in the second team in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league . In the 2017/18 season , Friedrich was only used in the second team, for which he appeared 13 times until December 2017.

1. FC Union Berlin

On January 27, 2018, Friedrich moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Union Berlin , where he received a contract until June 30, 2021. By the end of the 2017/18 season , he was used in 12 second division games (11 times from the start) and scored one goal. In the 2018/19 season , Friedrich was an undisputed regular player under Urs Fischer and played all 34 league games in the starting line-up. He also played 90 minutes in the relegation to the Bundesliga against VfB Stuttgart . In the 2-2 away game, Friedrich scored an important away goal , so that Union Berlin was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time after a 0-0 second leg.

Before the 2019/20 season , FC Augsburg pulled out a buyback option, so that the transfer rights to Friedrich were returned to the club. He then emphasized that he wanted to stay with Union Berlin. At the beginning of July, Friedrich did not get involved in the preparation at FC Augsburg. A few days later, both clubs agreed on a final transfer from Friedrich.

National team

Friedrich made his first game for the German U-19 national team on April 16, 2014 in a 5-2 win over the Belgian selection. He came on for Anthony Syhre in the 60th minute and scored his first goal for the youth team six minutes later. Friedrich was in the squad for the 2014 U-19 European Football Championship in Hungary and made two short appearances. After a 1-0 win against Portugal , he became European champion.

His sister Melissa (* 1997) played the 2014 Women's U-17 World Cup in Costa Rica and plays club soccer for Bayer 04 Leverkusen . His brother Steffen (* 1994) played in the youth of SC Paderborn 07 and played for the regional league team KSV Hessen Kassel . until 2017
