With his long-time club Werder Bremen , for which he played between 2005 and 2012, he won the DFB Cup in 2009 and reached the UEFA Cup final in the same year . 2013 ended his professional career at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , where he after less than a year exemption was. Wiese took part in the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship with the national team.

After the end of his professional football career by exemption from work, Wieses’s contractual relationship with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim continued purely formally until 2016. In the meantime, he dealt with bodybuilding and appeared on November 3, 2016 under the name The Machine as part of a WWE Germany Tour in an exhibition match .

Career

society

Beginnings

At the beginning of his footballing career in the youth club of DJK Dürscheid , Tim Wiese was still a striker . In 1989 he moved to the youth department of Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he was ordered into goal by his coach due to achilles tendon problems. As a result, he went through all youth teams in this position.

Then in the summer of 1999 Wiese moved to the Regionalliga Nord to Fortuna Cologne , his first team in the men's division. There he caught Gerry Ehrmann , the goalkeeping coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Wiese moved to the Betzenberg during the winter break of the 2001/02 season and ousted the goalkeeper Georg Koch . In the 2004/05 season, however, at the end of the first half of the season, Wiese tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee and was out for the rest of the season.

Werder Bremen

For the 2005/06 season , Wiese moved to Werder Bremen , where he initially signed a contract until 2008. In a preparatory game for the new season, the cruciate ligament tore again. As a result, he was out for several months and did not play a competitive game for over 15 months - apart from a semi-final in the league cup in July 2005 for Bremen. He made his debut on February 8, 2006 in the game against VfB Stuttgart , when he came on in the 81st minute for the then goalkeeper Andreas Reinke .

Tim Wiese in Action (2008)

After he had been given a regular place in the Bremer Tor due to an injury to Reinke , he made a mistake shortly before the end of the Champions League second leg against Juventus Turin on the evening of March 7, 2006 - he let a trapped cross fall from his hand - , which led to the elimination of his team in the round of 16. After a 3-2 win in the first leg in Bremen, Werder lost the second leg with 1-2. On October 19, 2007, Wiese extended his contract term until 2012.

In February 2008, Wiese held three penalty kicks within three game days . In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup 2008/09 against Hamburger SV , he saved three shots on penalties .

In the north derby against Hamburger SV on May 7, 2008 Wiese kicked Hamburg striker Ivica Olić in the 42nd minute with his foot in the face. Referee Lutz Wagner showed him the yellow card. Franz Beckenbauer rated Wieses foul in a commentary as an "attempted murder". Wiese said in the ARD interview about this scene that he hit the ball and Olić then ran into it, but later apologized for the action at Olić via SMS. An unknown person in Hamburg filed a criminal complaint against Wiese; the case was dropped four months later. Olić suffered a bruise in the neck and shoulder area.

In the game against Bayern Munich at the end of January 2011, Tim Wiese fouled Thomas Müller in a similarly curious way by stretching him to the ground with a pair of leg scissors in the last minute of the game and seeing the red card.

End of professional career in Hoffenheim

Wiese did not extend his contract with Werder, which expired at the end of the 2011/12 season, and was signed by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for four years until June 30, 2016 for the following season . At Hoffenheim he was named captain of the team by coach Markus Babbel at the end of the preparation . In the same season, Wiese had to give up the captain's armband due to continued poor performance. Later, under the new coach Marco. Shortly after Heurelho Gomes was signed, he was only number three among the goalkeepers of the Kraichgauer and in the meantime completely deleted from the professional squad for disciplinary reasons. Even when Gomes was injured on matchday 28 and was out until the end of the season, Wiese was still not considered under the new coach Markus Gisdol and the substitute goalkeepers Koen Casteels and Jens Grahl were preferred to him. His last of ten Bundesliga games for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was played by Wiese under Marco Kurz on January 26, 2013 in a 2-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt .

In preparation for the 2013/14 season , Wiese and other players who were no longer part of the professional squad were transferred to "Training Group 2", which the club called "Training Group 2", which trained independently of the rest of the professional squad. The "controversial" group, which in the end still consisted of Wiese, Tobias Weis , Edson Braafheid , Matthieu Delpierre and Matthias Jaissle , was disbanded at the end of September 2013 in order to integrate the players into the training of the second team. Since then, “Training Group 2” has had a “legendary” reputation. While the other players of "Training Group 2" were integrated into the training of the second team, Wiese received individual training at his own request with former goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel , who was employed as a scout in the club.

On January 21st, 2014 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim announced the separation from Wiese. Allegedly he received a severance payment of six million euros. About a month later it became public that Wiese had only received a compensation payment and that his basic salary had been reduced. Wiese's contract, which was still exempt from playing and training, was still valid for its original term until June 30, 2016. The club wanted to retain options - such as transfer rights. In November 2014, Wiese declared that he had "nothing to do with football".

Comeback as an amateur

Meadow in November 2016 requested the Bavarian Football Association a playing license for gambling in the eight-year Kreisliga Nordschwaben SSV Dillingen , for which he was eligible to play since January 1, 2017th Contact to the association came about through the first chairman Christoph Nowak, with whom Wiese is friends. Nowak initially left it open whether he would actually appear for the club. However, Wiese announced that he would play a game for the “good cause”, which was confirmed in early March 2017. He wanted to campaign for amateur football, as, according to his statement, it was becoming more and more in the background. On April 1, 2017, Wiese finally played in the league game against TSV Haunsheim . The 1: 2 defeat of SSV Dillingen in front of around 2,200 spectators was broadcast live on the Facebook page of the Bavarian Football Association.

“Because of professional sport, amateur football is moving ever further into the background. I am glad that I was able to do something to give amateur football such a high profile today. The backdrop with so many spectators was great and the game was an absolute highlight for the team, for the club and of course for the opponent. "

National team

Meadow with the national team (2011)

Wiese completed a total of 14 games for the German U-21 national team . He was hoping for a call to the senior national team, which initially failed to materialize. In September 2007 he publicly criticized national coach Joachim Loew for this.

On August 14, 2008 Wiese was subsequently nominated for an A international match for the first time - Germany against Belgium on August 20 - for the injured René Adler . However, he was only on the reserve bench because Robert Enke played from the start.

On September 2, 2008, Wiese made his unofficial national team debut in the farewell game of Oliver Kahn , in which he came on after the half-time break for Robert Enke . Eleven weeks later, on November 19, 2008, he played for the first time in an official international match: At the beginning of the second half in the friendly against England , Wiese was substituted on for Adler; the game ended 2-1 for England.

On May 6, 2010 he was appointed by national coach Löw as the second goalkeeper in the expanded squad for the 2010 World Cup . As a substitute goalkeeper for Manuel Neuer , he should make his first World Cup appearance in the game for third place against Uruguay. Due to a bursitis he was replaced by Hans Jörg Butt . This makes Wiese the only German player from the squad who did not play a game at the 2010 World Cup. Six years later, Wiese announced that although he was ailing, he could have played. But he “just didn't feel like it anymore”. Wiese was offended because after the serious injury of René Adler before the 2010 World Cup, the young Manuel Neuer was preferred to him as the goalkeeper. In an interview six years later he said: "Why should I still play in a game like this?"

By March 2012, Wiese had played six full international matches, none of which the German national team won. At the EM 2012 , Wiese took part with Ron-Robert Zieler as a replacement for Neuer and was eliminated with the team in the semi-finals. After the European Championships, Löw announced on August 9, 2012 that he was no longer planning on meadow.

Wrestling appearances

In September 2014, the company World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the largest wrestling organization, offered him to participate as a wrestler in official fights. Wiese initially left it open whether he would accept the offer. In November 2014, however, he announced for the first time that he was in talks with the WWE about a career as a wrestler. On November 15, 2014, Wiese was included in a WWE live show for the first time in the Frankfurt Festhalle , when he stepped into the ring after a tag team match and celebrated their victory with the Usos .

Wiese was under contract with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim until June 30, 2016 , although he had not played a game in three and a half years. In June 2016, he accepted an invitation from Triple H to complete an apprenticeship in Orlando , Florida . In September 2016, Wiese completed a one-week training course at the WWE Performance Center under the direction of Matt Bloom . On November 3, 2016, he rose under the ring name Tim "The Machine" Wiese in a 6 man tag team match together with Cesaro and Sheamus against Primo and Epico (The Shining Stars) and Bo Dallas as part of a Germany tour in Munich Olympiahalle in the ring for the first time. The team around Tim Wiese won the match. Wiese did not take part in the 2017 Germany tour because, according to his own statement, he does not fit into the storytelling. Shortly thereafter, he ended his career because he said he would have to live in the USA for three years for further matches in the WWE. Nevertheless, GWF superstar Pascal Spalter indicated a challenge to Tim Wiese at an edition of GWF Kick Out.

His father died in 2011 of complications from cancer ; his mother died of ALS .

At the end of January 2016, Wiese received a column in the tabloid Bild .

On January 8, 2017, he and darts world champion Michael van Gerwen won the Promi-Darts-WM 2017 show fight organized by the German TV station ProSieben .

At the end of 2017, Wieses sports car, a Lamborghini Aventador , was temporarily confiscated by the Hamburg police . Wiese had come into a control against so-called auto posers in downtown Hamburg and his vehicle exceeded the permissible volume limits considerably. According to various media reports, a technical manipulation on the exhaust system of his "luxury car" that can be controlled by remote control is responsible for the excessive noise level .
