Dürscheid is a district of the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . The name Dürscheid is derived from Dur (old name for water) and Scheid (sheath / border), i.e. the border that is marked by the stream. The vernacular is called Dü'esched .

history

According to unconfirmed sources, Pipin von Heristal and Plektrudis donated the free aristocratic convent of St. Maria in the Capitol around the year 700 , including the Dursten court (also Dursen), which is considered to be the origin of today's Dürscheid. In 1217 Count Adolf III confirmed . von Berg that the mill at Dursgeidhe (Dürscheid) is to come from his possession to the Order of St. John. This is the first time that Dürscheid is mentioned in a document. Exactly where the mill that went down over the years could not have been said with certainty. Possibly their location was at the point where the Dürscheider Hut has been since 1770 . In any case, a mill symbol is entered in Müffling's topographical survey from 1824.

From 1363 at the latest, Dürscheid has been documented as the seat of a jurisdiction ( Dingstuhl ). The feudal court at Hof Dursen had 100 feudal courts in 1555. The feudal court was overturned in 1809 by a decree of Napoleon .

The  Topographia Ducatus Montani  by  Erich Philipp Ploennies shows that Dürscheid belonged to the Porz office . At the time, the Steinbach office began on the outskirts , and the neighboring village of Steeg was already included . From the Charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 by Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking shows that the parish of Dürscheid at that time part of the Dean's Office Deutz in the diocese of Cologne was. It was assigned to the Upper Court of Bensberg in the Porz office. It covered an area of 887 ha.

Under French administration between 1806 and 1813 the Porz office was dissolved and Dürscheid was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in  the Mülheim am Rhein arrondissement  . In 1816 the  Prussians converted  the Mairie into the  mayor's office in Bensberg  in  the Mülheim am Rhein district .

In the list of the Kingdom of Prussia for the 1885 census, Dürscheid was used as a place to live for the rural community of Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district. At that time, 15 houses with 104 inhabitants were counted.

Due to the regional reform , the then city of Bensberg was dissolved on January 1, 1975 due to the Cologne Act . Dürscheid was incorporated into the municipality of Kürten.

Parish Dürscheid

The parishes in the Bergisches Land , including the parish of Dürscheid, were of particular importance not only from an ecclesiastical, but also from an administrative point of view . This effect as the structure of the individual living spaces can be determined to this day.

The church tower, which is still standing today, was built around 1250–1320. In 1351 the parish of Dürscheid was first mentioned in a document. In 1413 Dürscheid was assigned to the parish of Herkenrath . The parish of Dürscheid was in the early modern era at the same time honors in the Porz office and part of the Deutz deanery in the diocese of Cologne . In the Wiebeking map of 1789 the limits of the Dürscheid Honschaft are shown; it roughly corresponds to today's Dürscheid district and corridor 011 to the Herkenrath district. In 1816 Dürscheid became an independent parish.

At the time of the Rhine Province in 1845, the following residential areas belonged to the parish of Dürscheid: Bölinghoven , Broich , Broichhausen , Dahl ( Unterthal ), Dorpe , Dürscheid, Hove , Jähhardt , Keller , Oberblissenbach , Obersteinbach , Rottland , Schmillenburg , Siefen , Spitze , Steintor , Trotzenburg , Unterblissenbach and Untersteinbach .

Over time, some of the residential areas can no longer be seen individually as the settlements have grown together. Dürscheid, Steintor, Steeg and Winterberg as well asspitze with Dorpe, Broich, Bölinghoven and Trotzenburg each form a coherent settlement area.
