Trotzenburg is a district in the Herrenstrunden district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

Trotzenburg emerged from a presumably late medieval settlement that was first named Trotzenberg in 1563 . It was mentioned in the original cadastre south of Unterthal . It was a lease of the Johanniterkommende Herrenstrunden . The stock book of the Kommende from 1732 shows that Trotzenburg owned 34 acres of land . It was therefore a relatively small property.

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813 the Porz office was dissolved and the Dürscheid Honschaft , to which Trotzenburg also belonged, was politically assigned to the Mairie Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein arrondissement . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district . Trotzenburg had nine residents of Catholic faith in 1845.

In 1859 the towns of Trotzenburg and Unterhal became part of the mayor's office in Gladbach .

In the list of the Kingdom of Prussia for the 1885 census, Trotzenburg was listed as the residential area of the municipality of Bergisch Gladbach in the Mülheim am Rhein district. At that time, one house with nine residents was counted.

In 1905 the settlement consisted of a farm with six residents. However, it was not a castle, as the name suggests, rather the word mountain is meant here, as the name from 1563 shows. The defining word defiance goes back to the word Trautz , a derivation of the personal name Trautwein or female first name Traud (el) from Gertrud.
