Büchel is a district in the Herrenstrunden district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name Büchel refers to the establishment of a medieval settlement, which the original cadastre lists as Hof Büchel . In 1858 there were 14 residents. In 1905 there were three houses and 21 residents. The founding of the Bücheler Hof probably extends into the Franconian clearing phase in the 9th and 10th centuries. Under the name Büchel there is a documentary mention from the year 1666. The farm is mentioned in the inventory book of the Kommende Herrenstrunden from 1732 with 8 acres of farmland, 71 acres of meadows and arable land and 48 acres of forest property.
There are two possible explanations for the settlement name Büchel :
- Derived from the Germanic “bukil” or the Middle High German “hump” (= semicircular elevation), the name of the settlement refers to the topographical location, i.e. the hilly terrain.
- The settlement name could also refer to the local beech , if Büchel were derived from the Middle High German "büechel" (= book nut, fruit of the beech) or the dialect "Boochel" .
In 1879, a rock layer from the middle Devonian period after the quarry near the Bücheler Hof was called "Büchel layers" .
