Combüche is a district in the Herrenstrunden district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The name Combüche refers to a settlement that was first mentioned as Kombochen in 1400 . It is already recorded in the original cadastre as a combüche. It comes from the post-Carolingian period of great clearing around 1000-1300. In the late Middle Ages , the name was transferred to a Honschaft , i.e. an administrative unit that went back to the early Middle Ages and was made up of several individual farms and, in some cases, villages. In 1797 the community of Combüche included 50 houses and 308 residents. The population of Combüche fell from 35 to 25 residents in four residential buildings in the period from 1858 to 1905. The old community of Kombüche was later called Oberpaffrath .

The meaning probably results from the dialectal form om Komböken with the components Koo (= cow) and Booch (= beech). This results in cow beeches or cows under the beeches . According to this interpretation, cows have sought protection from the sun and rain under the beech trees. The late medieval form of kombochen corresponds to this.
