Esbach or Eßbach is a residential area in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

Location and description

The small town is located south of the federal highway 506 near Enkel and Morteln . In the neighborhood the Weidener Bach flows into the Kürtener Bach .

history

Esbach was first mentioned in 1515 as de Esbach . The appellative in the place name goes back to a brook as it is not difficult to recognize, the defining word was probably formed from * Esp ( aspen ).

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as Aesbich and on the Prussian first survey of 1840 as Esbach . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Esbach or Eßbach .

In 1822, 19 people lived in the place categorized as a house and designated Eschbach . The place, which was categorized as a courtyard in 1845 according to the overview of the government district of Cologne , had seven houses at that time. At that time, 20 residents lived in the place called Eschbach, all of them of Catholic faith. At that time the place belonged to the municipality of Olpe. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province listed Esbach 1871 with three houses and 22 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, three houses with 16 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had three houses and 20 residents. In 1905 the place had three houses and 20 residents and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish of Kürten.

In 1927 the mayor's office in Kürten was transferred to the office of Kürten. In the Weimar Republic in 1929 the offices of Kürten were merged with the municipalities of Kürten and Bechen and Olpe with the municipalities of Olpe and Wipperfeld to form the office of Kürten. The Wipperfürth district became part of the Rheinisch-Bergisch district on October 1, 1932, with its seat in Bergisch Gladbach .

In 1975 the current municipality of Kürten was established on the basis of the Cologne Act , to which, in addition to the offices of Kürten, Bechen and Olpe, a sub-area of ​​the city of Bensberg with Dürscheid and the surrounding areas was added.
