history

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the place existed as early as 1715 as a place with several courtyards and was called Seelbach . From the chart of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 by Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking , it can be seen that Selbach was part of the Olpe honor at that time in the parish of the same name in the district court of Kürten. He names the place as Sellbach .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the Steinbach office was dissolved and Oberselbach was politically assigned to Mairie Olpe or Kürten in the canton of Wipperfürth in the Elberfeld arrondissement . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Olpe and Kürten in the Wipperfürth district . Oberselbach belonged to the village of Olpe or Kürten at that time.

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey of 1840 as Ober Selbach . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded as Oberselbach on measuring table sheets .

In 1822 twelve people lived in the place categorized as Hof and called Sellbach . In 1830 the town in the mayor's office of Kürten had 79 inhabitants and was called Oberst-Selbach (with Unterst-Selbach) . One part, called Selbach, with 12 residents in a house belongs to the Olpe mayor's office.

After the municipalities Kürten and Olpe were formed within the respective mayor's offices in 1845, Oberselbach belonged partly to the municipality of Kürten and the other part to the municipality of Olpe.

20th century
