Hembach is a residential area in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

Location and description

The place is away from local roads in the Olpebach valley near Dörpe . The Olpebachtal nature reserve (GL-016) is located near the village .

history

Hembach was first mentioned in a document around 1470 as Groiß ind cleyn Haembach ( = Groß- und Kleinhaembach ). The appellative in the place name goes back to a brook as it is not difficult to recognize, the defining word was formed from ham (“ beuge” , “ angle ”) according to Leithäuser . A derivation of “ Hain , “ Hagen” is more likely .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey of 1840 as Hembach . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly listed as Hembach on measuring table sheets .

In 1822 twelve people lived in the place categorized as a house and called Hembach . At that time the place belonged to the municipality of Olpe. In 1830 the place had twelve inhabitants. The place categorized as a courtyard according to the overview of the government district of Cologne in 1845 had a residential building at that time. At that time, ten residents lived in the village, all of them of the Catholic faith. The municipality and district statistics of the Rhine Province listed Hembach 1871 with four houses and 29 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, three houses with 15 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had four houses and 27 residents. In 1905 the place had three houses and 26 inhabitants and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish of Olpe.

In 1927 the Olpe mayor's office was transferred to the Olpe office. In the Weimar Republic in 1929 the offices of Kürten were merged with the municipalities of Kürten and Bechen and Olpe with the municipalities of Olpe and Wipperfeld to form the office of Kürten. The Wipperfürth district became part of the Rheinisch-Bergisch district on October 1, 1932, with its seat in Bergisch Gladbach .

In 1975 the current municipality of Kürten was established on the basis of the  Cologne Act , to which, in addition to the offices of Kürten, Bechen and Olpe, a sub-area of ​​the city of Bensberg with Dürscheid and the surrounding areas was added.

In 2018 the place has three houses with 13 inhabitants and a holiday home.
