The nature reserve Olpebachtal is a nature reserve in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district . It begins in the vicinity of Hembach and extends from here over Delling to south of Eichen . Here is a brief interruption. A second part follows between the districts of Kaas and Sülze along the Kohlgrube road to the municipality of Kürten.

The NSG covers the lower section of the Olpebach valley until shortly before the confluence with the Kürtener Sülz . Here it goes into the nature reserve Olpebachtal (GM-042) in the municipality of Lindlar . As a near-natural flowing water with a wide floodplain, the area is representative of the Bergische plateau .

Vegetation and protection

The Bachtal consists of wet grassland in the form of flat, waters accompanying Hochstaudenfluren with butterbur and meadowsweet -rich wet fallow, by Himalayan balsam as invasive Neophyt are impaired. Particularly noteworthy are the extensive, water-accompanying tall herbaceous vegetation in the south. The protection designation takes place for the maintenance and development of a natural, extensive stream valley and its side depths. In detail, the following protective purposes were set:

  • Preservation and development of the extensive, diversified Bachtal system with its outstanding beauty and character and particular suitability for recreation in nature,
  • Preservation and securing of the protected biotopes : quarry , swamp and alluvial forests , wet meadows rich in sedges and rushes , spring areas and natural and near-natural areas of flowing and standing inland waters,
  • Preservation and development of species-rich grassland areas as well as wet and wet grassland in the valley floor as a habitat for adapted animal and plant species,
  • Securing the function as a biotope network area of outstanding regional importance.
