The Steeger Berg nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Dürscheid district of the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . It lies between Meiswinkel , Miebach , Steeg and Dürscheid (clockwise).

description

The nature reserve spreads in the south on sloping shoulders of a ridge sloping to the east and west of a ridge rising to the north. In the north it lies on a ridge sloping to the west. The two sections are morphologically separated by a dry valley . At the southern tip there is a former limestone quarry .

Vegetation and protection

The protection took place in order to preserve and develop a significant occurrence and development of a limestone beech forest and spruce stands on karst subsoil , an old orchard in the south and warmth-loving forest fringes and bushes. In detail, the following protective purposes were set:

  • Preservation and development of the species-rich mixed beech forest as a habitat for numerous endangered plant species, in particular geophytes and adapted plant species on calcareous soils,
  • Preservation and development of a limestone beech forest as a typical landscape section ( hilltops , hillside forests and sinkholes ) in the area of ​​the Paffrath Kalkmulde landscape ,
  • Preservation and development of forest communities that have become rare and typical of the Paffrather Kalkmulde landscape, in particular the pearl grass and woodruff beech forests.
