The Kalsbachtal nature reserve is a nature reserve between Kalsbach and Hommermühle in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

description

The area consists of an open meadow valley with a wide bottom. The floodplain is largely occupied by poorly humid pastures that are at least temporarily grazed with sheep. In addition, there is wet grassland.

The Kalsbach flows north of Waldmühle into the Kürtener Sülz .

Vegetation and protection

The protected area designation was made for the preservation and development of near-natural floodplain habitats with wet and humid grassland, water courses with accompanying floodplain trees, spring depths and species-rich lean grassland on the southern slope as a habitat for a rich insect fauna and flora. In detail, the following protective purposes were set:

  • Preservation and securing of the protected biotopes: quarry , swamp and alluvial forests , wet meadows rich in sedges and rushes , spring areas as well as natural and near-natural areas of flowing and standing inland waters,
  • Preservation and development of species-rich poor grassland areas in a sloping area sloping down to the south as well as of wet and wet grassland in the valley floor as a habitat for adapted animal and plant species,
  • Preservation of the special character and outstanding beauty of the near-natural brook valley with its tapering spring depths,
  • Securing the function as a biotope composite area .
