The nature reserve Kollen- und Westerbachtal is a nature reserve in the area of Hufe , Oberkollenbach , Niederkollenbach , Engeldorf and Offermannsheide in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district .
description
The nature reserve Kollen- and Westerbachtal consists of two parts. The western part begins in the area between Hufe and Oberkollenbach and then leads continuously to Offermannsheide. The eastern part has its origin in Niederkollenbach and ends at Engeldorf. The interruption is caused by a section of the stream that is not under nature protection and is also close to nature. In both parts of the area, the stream mainly flows through forest.
Vegetation and protection
In the relatively wide floodplain you can see alluvial forests with black alder and ash . In the northern section the floodplain opens up to a meadow valley with wet fallow land, into which the glandular balsam has penetrated as an invasive neophyte . The area with its near-natural low mountain range and the partially open floodplain overgrown with wet grassland is typical of the Bergische plateau . The designation of the protected area was made for the preservation and development of species and structure-rich floodplain habitats. The following protection purposes are specified in detail:
- Preservation and securing of the protected biotopes : quarry , swamp and alluvial forests , swamps , reed beds , wet meadows rich in sedges and rushes , large sedge groves , spring areas as well as natural and natural areas of flowing and standing inland waters,
- Preservation and development of near-natural small bodies of water and ponds with silting zones as important habitats, especially for amphibians ,
- Preservation and development of near-natural and structurally rich alluvial forests as well as accompanying hornbeam - rich hillside forests,
- Preservation and securing of boggy alder swamps and numerous rushes and sedge swamps as habitats for rare and adapted animal and plant species,
- Securing the function as a biotope network area is of paramount importance.
