The nature reserve Sürthtal (Kürten) is a nature reserve northeast of Burgheim in Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis and extends to the municipal boundary of Wipperfürth .

The Sürthtal nature reserve is typical of the Bergische plateaus , and represents a well-preserved, open meadow valley in a closed forest with wet grassland and near-natural alluvial forest stands . It is part of the nationwide network of natural source streams in the forest, especially of open valley meadows . The main development goal is to keep the Bachaue open through extensive use of grassland ( mowing ) and to push back bracken , which penetrates from the side , in order to maintain and develop species-rich wet grassland.

Vegetation and protection

The protection designation was made to maintain and restore an ecologically richly equipped and near-natural stream valley with flowing waters, wet and wet grassland, tall herbaceous areas , hillside and alluvial forests. The following protection purposes are specified in detail:

  • Preservation and protection of the protected biotopes : quarry , swamp and alluvial forests , swamps , reed beds , wet meadows rich in sedges and rushes , spring areas as well as natural and near-natural areas of flowing and standing inland waters,
  • Conservation and development of extensively used wet and humid grassland in the valley floor and in the side depths,
  • Preservation of the special character and beauty of the near-natural brook valley and spring depths.
