The Altenbachtal nature reserve is a nature reserve along Wermelskirchener Strasse in the municipality of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

description

The Altenbachtal nature reserve extends on the lower reaches of the Altenbach in two sections from the center of Kürten to the north to the ponds at the junction to Enkel . After the first third there is a break in the vicinity of a small industrial park. It is an open meadow valley with brachgefallenem wet grassland and in places with meadowsweet -rich Hochstaudenfluren . The area represents a typical meadow valley in the Bergisches Land .

The Altenbach flows in Kürten into the Kürtener Sülz .

Vegetation and protection

The designation of the protected area was made to maintain and restore a natural course of the stream, source areas, alluvial forests , woody trees that accompany the stream, as well as extensive wet and wet grassland and rough meadows . In detail, the following protective purposes were set:

  • Preservation and securing of the protected biotopes: quarry , swamp and alluvial forests, swamps, reed beds , wet meadows rich in sedge and rushes , large sedge groves , spring areas and natural and near-natural areas of flowing and standing inland waters
  • Preservation and development of the extensively used, sometimes very species and structure-rich lean grassland as well as wet and humid grassland in the valley floor and tapering spring depths and hollows,
  • Preservation of the special character and outstanding beauty of the near-natural stream valley with its tapering spring depths.
