Luis Robles (born May 11, 1984 in Fort Huachuca , Arizona ) is an American football goalkeeper of Puerto Rican descent.
Career
In the club
Luis Robles played for the University of Portland soccer team from 2002 . In the meantime he was in the squad of the reserve team of the Colorado Rapids .
In the winter break of 2006/07 he moved to the second team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Previously, he was drafted by DC United , but he decided against a commitment in the Major League Soccer .
After Jürgen Macho's change and Florian Fromlowitz's injury, he moved up to the second division team as a substitute goalkeeper in autumn 2007. On October 17, 2008, in the 4-1 win against Rot Weiss Ahlen , Robles made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga , when he represented goalkeeper Tobias Sippel . Later in the 2008/09 season , Robles replaced Sippel as the goalkeeper of the first team. In the 2009/10 season he was again the second goalkeeper behind Sippel and only came to one more use. After promotion to the Bundesliga, he turned down a new contract offer from 1. FC Kaiserslautern and instead signed shortly before the start of the new season with the second division club Karlsruher SC .
From August 2012 Robles was under contract with the New York Red Bulls , for which he made his debut on September 30, 2012 under coach Hans Backe in the game against Toronto FC . In the MLS season in 2015 Robles was chosen as goalkeeper of the year.
For the 2020 season, Robles switched to the new Inter Miami franchise within the MLS .
In the national team
Robles was for some time in the extended squad of the Puerto Rican national team , but came to no international appearance. At the beginning of June 2009 he took part in the training camp of the US national team and was appointed to the US squad for the first time at the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches . At the Confederations Cup in 2009 Robles was also in the national team, but was not used here either. He played his first international match for the USA national team at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup against Haiti. The second took place 7 years later, in January 2016.
