Benjamin Jacques Marcel Pavard (born March 28, 1996 in Maubeuge ) is a French football player . The defender is often used as a center- back and sometimes as a right-back. Pavard moved from Lille OSC to VfB Stuttgart in 2016 and has been playing for FC Bayern Munich since July 2019 . He is French international and 2018 world champion .

Career start

Pavard began playing football at the age of six at the US Jeumont and moved to the youth department of Lille OSC at the age of nine . For the 2014/15 season he moved up to the first team and made his debut on January 31, 2015 in a 1-1 away match against FC Nantes in Ligue 1 , the top division in French football.

VfB Stuttgart

On August 30, 2016 he was signed by Bundesliga relegated VfB Stuttgart , who provided him with a contract that ran until June 30, 2020. In his competitive debut for Stuttgart on October 3, 2016 (8th matchday) in a 4-0 home win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth , he prepared the goal for Carlos Mané to make it 1-0 and scored the 3-0 header. Pavard rose to the Bundesliga for the following season with VfB. On December 20, 2017, he extended his contract term with VfB Stuttgart early until the end of June 2021. In the 2018/19 season , Pavard played in 29 Bundesliga games. He finished 16th with VfB and was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga against 1. FC Union Berlin .

FC Bayern Munich

For the 2019/20 season, Pavard moved to Bayern Munich by means of an exit clause . At the end of the season he won his first German championship . By winning the cup on July 4, 2020 and winning the UEFA Champions League on August 23, 2020, Pavard won the triple .

At Bayern, he has a contract that runs until June 30, 2024.

National team

Pavard took part in the 2015 U19 European Championship with the U19 national team. He was in action for the U21 national team in qualifying for the U21 European Championship 2017 .

On November 2, 2017, Pavard was appointed to France's senior national team for the first time for the international matches against Wales and Germany . He made his senior international debut when he came on as a substitute for Christophe Jallet in the 2-0 win over Wales at halftime on 10 November 2017 .

On May 17, 2018, Pavard was appointed to the French squad for the World Cup in Russia by coach Didier Deschamps . Surprisingly, Djibril Sidibé , Pavard's French teammate, lost his regular place as a right-back, whereupon Pavard became the new regular player. Pavard was only spared in the third group game against Denmark, otherwise he did not miss a single minute of the game. In the round of 16, he scored his first goal for the senior national team with the intermittent 2: 2, in the 4: 3 win against Argentina, with a volley shot from distance. He won the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Équipe Tricolore .
