Nabil Fekir (born July 18, 1993 in Lyon ) is a French - Algerian football player . The offensive player is under contract with Betis Sevilla . In 2018 he became world champion with the French national team in Russia .

Career

Fekir began his career at the age of seven with the Athletic Club Villeurbanne . From 2001 to 2003 he played for FC Vaulx-en-Velin , for which he was again active from 2007 to 2010 after stints at SC Caluire Saint-Clair and Olympique Lyon . He then played for a year for AS Saint-Priest and then returned to the youth of Olympique Lyon.

In Lyon, he moved up to the first team for the 2013/14 season . On August 31, 2013, he made his Ligue 1 debut in the 2-1 defeat at FC Évian Thonon Gaillard . He scored his first goal on April 27, 2014 to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute in a 4-1 win at home against SC Bastia .

On July 8, 2015, Fekir extended his contract prematurely by one year to June 30, 2020. At the beginning of September 2015, he tore a cruciate ligament and was absent for half a year. On April 8, 2016, he played his first competitive game after the injury in a 2-0 away win against HSC Montpellier .

For the 2019/20 season, Fekir moved to the Spanish Primera División at Betis Sevilla for 19.75 million euros plus possible bonus payments of 10 million euros together with his brother Yassin . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2023.

National team

On October 14, 2014 Fekir came to the French U21 national team in the 4-1 defeat in Sweden . Since his parents come from Algeria , but he was born and raised in France, he has both nationalities and would have been eligible to play in both countries. In March 2015, due to the 2016 European Championship in France , he decided against his parents' home country and for the French Football Association . On March 26, 2015, he made his debut in the 3-1 friendly defeat against Brazil in the French senior team . He scored his first goal on June 7, 2015 in the 3: 4 loss to Belgium in Paris . On September 4, 2015, he played for the first time in a competitive game in the 1-0 win against Portugal .

In May 2018, Fekir was appointed to the French squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . He was used six times in the tournament and became world champion with his team after a 4-2 final victory over Croatia .
