The Saxony-Anhalt Cup (also National Cup Sachsen-Anhalt ) is since 1991 annually by the Saxony-Anhalt Football Association discharged (FSA) Federation Cup . All teams registered with the FSA in the third division to regional league as well as the winners of the district cup competitions and the city cup competitions in Magdeburg and Halle (Saale) of the previous season are eligible to participate . The national cup winner is entitled to start the first main round of the DFB Cup in the following season . The respective cup matches are decided in just one game, with the two participating clubs and the national association sharing the spectator income. The winner will be determined after extra time and penalty shoot-out. The record cup winner is 1. FC Magdeburg with twelve titles, two of which were won by the club's second team.

FSA and Krombacher Cup

General

The trophy has been played since the Football Association of Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1991. The mode was changed several times. Up to the 1993/94 season, the two district cup winners from the districts of Magdeburg and Halle were initially determined in normal cup competitions, which then determined the cup winners of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in the final of the state cup.

From the 1994/95 season, the state cup was held as a uniform competition, with all teams at the state level (i.e. up to the state class - 7th league) and the district cup winners were eligible to start. The result was that sometimes more than 160 teams took part in the competition and 8 cup rounds were necessary to determine the winner.

In order to reduce the number of games, a new reform took place for the 2000/01 season, whereby only all teams from the regional league , upper league , association league , the top five of the three national leagues and the 24 winners of the district cup competitions were eligible to start.

From 2005/06 to 2009/10 the State Cup of Saxony-Anhalt was called the ODDSET Cup. From 2010/11 to 2012/13 the competition was titled the FSA's Krombacher Cup. It has been called the FSA Cup since the 2013/14 season.

All teams from the 3rd league , regional league , upper league , association league , regional league and the 14 district cup winners are currently taking part in the competition. Second teams are not allowed to take part in the national cup.

Final venues

The cup finals took place at different venues until 1997. From 1998 the finals were played in the Paul Greifzu Stadium in Dessau . An agreement between the city of Dessau and the FSA stipulated that ten finals should be played in Dessau. After eight finals in Dessau, the series was interrupted in 2006 and the final was held in Schönebeck (Elbe) , due to the central location between the finalists Staßfurt and Magdeburg. In the following three years the cup finals took place in Magdeburg in the MDCC arena . This was owed u. a. the explosive finals in 2008 and 2009 between Halleschen FC and 1. FC Magdeburg. At that time, the stadium in Magdeburg was the only modern stadium in the state that met the safety requirements. After a final in Sangerhausen, the finals again took place in Dessau in 2011 and 2012. The 2013 final was again held in the Magdeburg MDCC Arena. From 2014 to 2016 the final took place in the Erdgas Sportpark in Halle (Saale). In the following two years, however, the final was played in Magdeburg, in 2017 for the sixth time in the MDCC Arena and in 2018 for the first time in the Heinrich Germer Stadium . In 2019, the final took place for the first time in Halberstadt's Peace Stadium.
