Jürgen Rimpau

Albrecht Konrad Jürgen Rimpau (born May 15, 1944 in Böhnshausen ) is a German agricultural scientist specializing in plant breeding and genetics, as well as a farmer and domain tenant.

Life

education and profession

After graduating from school in 1963, he completed a one-year internship in the agricultural sector before starting to study agriculture at the University of Göttingen in 1964 .

After graduating in 1968, he taught plant breeding and genetics at the University of Göttingen and obtained his doctorate in the first of these two subjects at the same university in 1972. This was followed by a research stay at the University of Cambridge and the return to Göttingen in 1975. After receiving his habilitation in 1976 in the subject of applied genetics and plant breeding, he was appointed professor at the relevant chair in Göttingen in 1981.

In addition to his academic career, in 1978 he also took over his parents' lease business in Voldagsen and, from 1990, a market fruit business in the former family home of Langenstein , where his great-grandfather Wilhelm Rimpau was already a grain breeder .

Rimpau has been a member of the Council for Sustainable Development since 2003 .

Jürgen Rimpau is married to Cornelia Rimpau and has two children.

Jürgen Rimpau is particularly committed to the Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft e. V. (DLG) where, in addition to other offices, he was also a board member for many years. In 2010 Rimpau was awarded the Max Eyth Medal in Gold for its more than 35 years commitment to the DLG and was made an honorary member.

Rimpau is a member of the National Committee for Biosphere Reserves at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Council for Sustainable Development .
