Football Association Cup 2015/16

The participants of the 21 national associations of the DFB in the DFB-Pokal 2016/17 were determined via the football association cup 2015/16 . The winners of the association cups were entitled to participate in the first round of the DFB Cup. The three associations with the largest number of members, Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Westphalia, also sent a second participant. Thus 24 amateur clubs qualified for the national cup competition, 22 of them via the association cups. The second teams of the professional clubs (1st and 2nd Bundesliga) are not allowed to participate in the DFB-Pokal.

In Lower Saxony, in addition to the cup winners, the defeated cup finalist qualified for the DFB-Pokal, in Bavaria the best team of the 2015/16 regional league season qualified for the first in addition to the winner of the association cup - unless it was the second team of a professional club Main round of the DFB Cup, in Westphalia this was, with the same restriction as in Bavaria, the winning team of the qualification game between the champions of the Oberliga Westfalen 2015/16 and the best Westphalian team in the Regionalliga West 2015/16 .

The finals of the national cups 2015/16 were played on Saturday, May 28, 2016 and for the first time on one day, the "Amateurs Final Day". ARD broadcast all final matches live in three consecutive conferences. However, due to scheduling conflicts, not all finals were held on that day, for example in Hesse, Saarland and Saxony.

1The three state associations with the most men's teams in play (Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Westphalia) had two starting places. In addition to the cup winner, either the defeated cup finalist (Lower Saxony), the best-placed regional league team (Bavaria) or the winner in a qualifying game between the champions of the Oberliga Westfalen and the best-placed Westphalian team in the Regionalliga West (Westphalia) took part.
2Since syndicates such as SG HWW Niederroßbach (joint team of the independent clubs FC Borussia Niederroßbach and FC Westerwaldia Emmerichenhain ) are not allowed to participate in the DFB Cup according to the DFB's rules of play, the second finalist of the Rhineland Cup 2015/16 was automatically determined as a participant .
3Since FC Erzgebirge Aue, 1. FC Magdeburg and Würzburger Kickers had already qualified for the DFB Cup via the 3rd league , the final opponents FSV Zwickau, Hallescher FC and SpVgg Unterhaching were also qualified.
