His first men's soccer team has been playing in the fifth-class Bremen league since it was promoted in 2005 . The venue is the Burgwall Stadium . During the Third Reich , the association was called ASV Blumenthal .

The club took part once in the German championship of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association and three times in the German championship of amateurs . The Blumenthalers qualified seven times for the DFB Cup and Tschammer Cup . As ASV Blumenthal , the club played for eight years in the first-class Gauliga Lower Saxony and Weser-Ems . In addition, the Blumenthaler SV was able to win eleven national championship titles and eight national cup titles.

history

From foundation to prohibition (1912–1933)

Although 1919 is considered the year the club was founded, the roots of Blumenthaler SV go back to 1912. At that time, some students founded the Spiel und Sport Blumenthal club , which became the Blumenthaler FV a few weeks later . This settled down at the sports field at the forester's house. After the First World War , the association split up. At the general meeting on May 30, 1919, there was a dispute between the proletarian and bourgeois club members. The proletarians wanted to join the SPD - closely related Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB), while the other side wanted to remain in the DFB . On June 16, 1919, the workers founded Blumenthaler SV, which joined the ATSB. The remaining members of the Blumenthaler FV merged in 1919 with the Vegesacker SV to form SpVgg Vegesack-Blumenthal , which became SG Aumund-Vegesack after the Second World War .

During the 1920s, the Blumenthaler SV acquired the name of the "Forsthaus-Elf" because of its strong home base. The supporters recruited mainly among the workers of Bremer Vulkan - shipyard and the Bremer Woll-combing . In terms of sport, the team quickly caught up with the leading teams in the region. The sporting highlight was the 1931/32 season, when the Blumenthalers won the district championship against a team from Hildesheim . In order to qualify for the German workers' championship, the "Forsthaus-Elf" advanced through the stations FTSV Kiel-Ost and Spielverein Oberkaufungen into the semi-finals. There the Blumenthalers failed with 1: 4 at the eventual champions TSV Nürnberg-Ost .

A year later, the National Socialists took power in the German Reich and banned the workers' sports movement. Since there was no civil association in the north of Bremen that could have taken over the sporting position, the BSV was rescued unplanned. This rescue was tied to three conditions: The club had to switch to the DFB, change its name and start over in the district class. Through a similar process, a few kilometers down the Weser, the Bremerhaven ATV became the Bremerhaven 93 association .

The ASV Blumenthal (1933–1947)

Despite the downgrading, the "Forsthaus-Elf" stayed together and in 1936, after two consecutive promotions, reached the district class. There the team secured the relay victory, but failed in the promotion round to Gauliga Niedersachsen at VfL Osnabrück . A short time later, Borussia Harburg and Wilhelmsburg 09 were transferred to the Gauliga Nordmark and an additional qualifying round was scheduled. After a 5-0 win over 1. SC Göttingen 05 , ASV made their league promotion perfect. Despite a 12-0 defeat at Hannover 96 , the Blumenthalers managed to stay up without any problems.

A year later, the team seemed to have been relegated when they got seven points from the last four games of the season and thus managed to stay in the league. In 1940, the "Forest House-Elf" made in Tschammerpokal , the predecessor of today's German Cup sensation when she in the first round to Hamburger SV 3: defeated first The end came a round later after a clear 0: 5 at Dresdner SC . Two years later, the ASV remained first class only thanks to the dissolution of the Lower Saxony Gauliga. During the season there was a 0:14 at Wilhelmshaven 05 . In the 1942/43 season there was in the now Gauliga Weser-Ems even a 0:25 against the same opponent. A year later, the Blumenthalers secured the runner-up. After the end of the war, ASV 1946 was Bremen runner-up behind SV Werder , who were defeated 3-0 over the course of the season. After the 1946/47 season, the club again took on the traditional name Blumenthaler SV.

Championships without promotions (1947–1974)

From 1947 the BSV played in the highest Bremen amateur league. Although the team was one of the top clubs in the league, it regularly failed in the promotion round to the Ober- or Regionalliga Nord . In 1950 the "Forsthaus-Elf" secured the first Bremen championship, but failed after defeats at TSV Goslar 08 and against Altona 93 in the promotion round. A year later, the team was early out of the promotion race after two opening defeats.

Meanwhile moved to the Burgwall Stadium, after the third championship in 1952, the BSV was able to gain the only promotion round points in the meaningless last game against VfB Oldenburg . After a few modest years in the middle of the table, it reached the fourth Bremen championship in 1959. Again the leap into the league was missed in the promotion round. Three years later, Erich Hänel, a renowned coach, was hired who led his team to the fifth championship in 1964. In the promotion round, the BSV remained without points. In the following season, the club made numerous high-profile and expensive newcomers, but at the end of the season the Blumenthalers were only runner-up. More mediocre years followed before, from 1969, under coach Wolfgang Bolz, the focus was again on their own offspring.

Three years later, the BSV won championship number six and missed the class jump with a 3: 3 on the last day of the promotion round against Schleswig 06 . A year later, the Blumenthalers drew the short straw in the promotion round against VfL Pinneberg . In 1974 the third-class Oberliga Nord was introduced, for which the Bremen champions should automatically qualify. On the last day of the match there was a showdown between leaders Bremer SV and Blumenthaler SV, who was one point behind in second place. That won in front of 8,000 spectators 3-0 and moved into the top division.

Between the upper and association leagues (1974–1993)

The Blumenthalers started successfully in the Oberliga Nord. In the 1974/75 season , the team reached seventh place, a year later it was enough for eighth place. In parallel, the BSV appeared several times in the DFB Cup. In 1974, the team lost 3-1 to MSV Duisburg in the first round in front of 6,000 spectators . A year later, the Blumenthalers first defeated Hertha Zehlendorf 1-0 and then lost in round two in front of 5,000 spectators 5-1 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In 1977 there was a derby against Werder Bremen in the first round, who won 5-1 in front of 5,500 spectators. In the league season 1976/77 , however, the BSV was third from bottom. Since two northern clubs, VfL Wolfsburg and Göttingen 05, were relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga and only one northern German club was promoted to Bremerhaven 93 , the Blumenthalers had to go down to the Bremen association league.

In the following season, the BSV initially lost in the first round of the DFB Cup with 1: 2 after extra time against the amateurs of Fortuna Düsseldorf and missed the championship after a 2: 3 defeat at VfB Lehe . This was brought a year later with a strongly rejuvenated team, before even being promoted back to the league after a 1-1 draw at direct competitor VfR Neumünster . There the team was overwhelmed in the 1979/80 season and took the last place in the table from the 13th match day.

Difficult times began in Blumenthal, both sportily and financially. In 1983 a fundraising campaign saved the association from bankruptcy . Five years later, the coach Horst Blankenburg led the A-youth of the BSV in the junior upper league north. A year later, numerous talents moved up into the first team. This secured the tenth Bremen championship in 1989. In the promotion round, however, the team lost the final two games and remained fourth class. A year later it was only enough for the runner-up behind OT Bremen . This was followed by a sporty downturn that led to relegation from the Bremen Association League in 1993.

Elevator era (1993-2005)

In the 1993/94 season, the team rose to the district league. After three ascents in a row, the BSV reached the fourth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen in 1997 and rose as bottom of the table immediately back to 2002 in the district league. Since 2005, the BSV has been back in the Bremen League after two consecutive promotions .

Between success and midfield (since 2005)

In 2006 the 1st team won the 18th LOTTO Masters for the Haake Beck Cup ( today: LOTTO Masters for the Sparkasse Bremen Cup ), the unofficial Bremen indoor championship in today's Bremen ÖVB Arena against Werder Bremen's U23. In 2015, today's LOTTO Masters was won again. This time the competitor Bremer SV was beaten in the final .

In 2014, 2016 and 2018 the entry into the DFB Cup was missed after the Blumenthalers lost the finals for the Lotto Cup . In the first two finals, Bremer SV won 1-0 and 3-0 respectively, while BSC Hastedt had the upper hand 3-0 in 2018 .
