final
Siegen remained technically superior to the Bad Homburgers on a lawn that had become heavy due to thunderstorms. Only in the 80th minute did a penalty kick offer Bad Homburg the chance of a consolation goal, but Siegen's goalkeeper Steffe saved the penalty taken by Zänger.
Among the 15,000 spectators, including DFB President Peco Bauwens , who presented the trophy, there were 8,000 fans of Sportfreunde Siegen, some of whom had made their way to Wetzlar with two special trains.
In Siegen, the team was received in triumph and honored by Mayor Erich Pachnicke with an official reception.
