Sterkrade 06/07 (officially: Spielvereinigung Sterkrade 06/07 eV ) is a football club from Oberhausen - Sterkrade . The association currently has around 250 members.

history

On May 13, 1906, the Sterkrade 06 game club was founded. In 1920 this merged with TV 1869 Sterkrade to form TSV 1869/1906 Sterkrade . Just two years later, the football department of the merger club set up as Spielverein 06 Sterkrade . Through the merger with the Spielclub 07 Sterkrade , the Spielvereinigung 06/07 Sterkrade was finally formed in 1929 .

From 1947 the SpVgg played in the third-class amateur league Niederrhein , at that time the highest class of amateur football. There she mostly took top places. In both 1954 and 1955, the team won their Lower Rhine relay. During this era, the SpVgg also produced their most prominent player, Karl Klug , alongside the eventual world champion Dieter Herzog , who only played for Sterkrade in his youth. Klug was part of the German amateur national team at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Thanks to Klug's goals against Egypt in the round of 16 and Brazil in the quarter-finals, the German team reached the semi-finals of the Olympic soccer competition . In 1955, the SpVgg also moved into a nationwide field of vision for the first time when they took part in the final round of the German Amateur Championship. However, the end came in the group games. In 1970 Sterkrade became Niederrheinmeister under coach Ludwig Bartholot and only just missed the leap into the Regionalliga West in the promotion round . In the following year, the runner-up again qualified for the final round of the amateur championship. In the second round, the team was eliminated against FSV Frankfurt .

Between 1975 and 1978, 06/07 was able to fight for the leading position in Oberhausen football in a direct duel with the mighty local rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen - but RWO was ahead and was able to place itself in front of Sterkrade in all three joint seasons. In 1976, this was the only time to qualify for the main round of the DFB Cup , but in which one did not survive the first round.

The 1977 merger with SuS 1955 Klosterhardt to form SuS 06/07 Sterkrade was not able to stop the game association's decline. For the Amateur Oberliga Nordrhein , founded in 1978 , they missed qualifying as fourth in the table, although they were the only club that had seen all seasons of the Amateur League Niederrhein. In 1980 the association league could no longer be held either, since then the first men's team has been commuting mostly between the regional league and the district class. In the 2010/11 season, the club played in the seventh-class Lower Rhine regional league and was relegated from bottom of the table. The season 2012/13 Sterkrade also completed in the district league on a relegation place and had to spend two years in the district league A before the promotion to the district league succeeded.

Sterkrade 06/07 still has a youth department that looks after all age groups. The club's A-youth became West German runner-up in 1969.
